It is important to examine the casualty to look for any signs that could aid your diagnosis. Check for:

• Bleeding
• Breathing
• Foreign Bodies (anything stuck in the skin)
• Colour of Face
• Groans
• Swelling/Deformity
• Burns
• Pulse
• Bruising
• Incontinence
• Temperature
• Responses

It is also important to check around the casualty for any signs of what could have caused the incident/ injuries, such as:

• Fire
• Signs of electrical malfunction
• Gas
• Alcohol
• Drugs
• Dampness
• Temperature (too hot or cold)
