Fluids and Dehydration
- Water makes up 2/3 of our body weight
- We cannot survive without water
- We need to drink 1.2 litres of water (6 x 200mls or 8 x 150mls)
- This includes water, milk, tea, coffee, squash or juice (unsweetened)
- Alcohol does NOT count
Signs of dehydration include:
- Dizziness
- Fatigue
- Clumsiness
- Falling
- Weight loss
- Shrivelled skin
- Dry skin, mouth or chapped lips
- Dry and/or sunken eyes
- Headache
- Drowsiness
- Nausea and vomiting
- Dark urine
- Urine with a strong odour
- Painful urination
- Decreased urination
- Constipation.
