Salt

Eating too much salt is unhealthy for both adults and children. Eating high levels of salt can raise your blood pressure which increases the risk of heart attack and stroke. The Guideline Daily Amount (GDA) is a limit set by health experts to tell you how much salt you should have each day.4

  • The average adult in the UK consumes 8.6g of salt per day
  • Roughly 75% of our salt intake comes from everyday foods such as breakfast cereals, sauces and soup
  • If we add extra salt to food we can easily consume too much
  • 1-2 servings of some foods can contain more than our recommended daily intake. This is why it is important to check food labels.
