Legislation Relating to Infection Control
It is the policy of Active to observe the requirements of the following:
Health & Safety at Work Act (1974)
Personal Protective Equipment at Work Regulations (1992)
Environmental Protection Act (1990)
Responsibility for implementing appropriate strategies rests with Active’s Infection Control Team. The team currently consists of Karen Pogson and Catherine Bowers. They have responsibilities for the following:
- To educate and advise PA’s on infection control issues
- To liaise with PA’s on infection control issues
- Observing infection incidents
- Writing and reviewing infection control policy, procedure and code of conduct
- To monitor through spot checks that staff are adhering to the policies/ procedures
- Research and update infection control information and legislation
Health conditions that should be reported to the Infection Control Team
You should contact the office and consult a doctor in the following circumstances:
- You, or a member of your household has diarrhoea, vomiting, ear, nose and throat infection or any transmittable disease e.g. chicken pox
- Any personal skin conditions such as eczema, psoriasis or scabies etc.
- In the case of viral gastro-enteritis you should stay away from work for a further 48 hours after the illness has ended
Advice should be sought from the family doctor with regard to returning to work following any of the above.
