Obtaining Emergency Medication
- A acute or one off prescription follows a visit to the doctor or a doctor visit at home. This is usually a short term strategy such as anti-biotics or pain relief
- Acute prescriptions should start as soon as possible or at least within 24 hours
- The medication details must be transferred onto the service users Medication Administration Record (MAR) chart as soon as possible
- Co-ordinators or senior staff will collect emergency prescription if this is part of the support plan, and will record the information on the MAR chart.
