Percutaneous Endoscopic Gastrostomy (PEG)
- Obtain valid consent – ask the client if they are ready to take their medication
- Wash hands and don PPE
- Ensure equipment is intact and not damaged
- Talk through the procedure at each stage
- Flush with water before and after to ensure easy passage
- All medicines must be prepared in separate syringes
- Instructions for thicker liquids may include mixing with water to ensure safe passage
- Some dispersal medication may require preparation in advance to ensure they are dissolved at the point of administration
