Role of the Administrator

  • You can only administer medication which you have be trained to administer and then assessed as competent
  • Only administer medication when you feel confident in doing so
  • Additional training is required via more specialist routes
  • The company’s procedures must be followed in relation to collection, ordering, storing, disposing and recording medication
  • Only undertake tasks detailed in clients Support Plan
  • Always seek consent prior to assisting someone with any medication task e.g. “Are you ready to take your medication now?”
  • Administer medication in accordance with the 8R’s


Care/ Support Workers can have a key role in linking with the pharmacist or prescriber to resolve any difficulties the client is experiencing with their medication routine e.g. difficulty in swallowing, side effects, timing etc.
