Xylosound are looking for new Xylophone players please read detail below:

Xylosound is a unique band with percussion and tune playing Xylophone sections. The percussion section is currently full however we are looking for new adult Xylophone players who have disability or additional learning needsPeople don’t have to already play a xylophone but do need to be able to recall a simple tune pattern. This is often a hidden talent in the special needs sector. It can be spotted if someone is playing with a keyboard or piano and can reproduce a tune they remember. If you have any clients or service users who you think may have this musical ability we would like to meet them. Working with Xylosound we will be able to help develop this talent and they will find it an enjoyable and rewarding experience.

Xylosound is a group of adults with additional learning needs who play xylophones, percussion and wind instruments. Members meet at The Watershed in Slaithwaite on a regular weekly basis to create and rehearse music. They are supported by professional musicians and volunteer care staff. Xylosound gives public performances in a variety of community and education settings and facilitates musical workshops. The music is unique and the musicianship of the members of the group an inspiration.

The aims of the organisation are to:

  • Provide a creative facility for people with learning difficulties to develop their musical abilities and talents
  • Provide professional tuition and musical direction support the abilities and maximise the potential of Xylosound members
  • Promote a positive image of people with learning difficulties within the creative sector, education and in the community
  • Create opportunities for others with learning difficulties to make music through outreach workshops delivered by the group
